All lop-eared (floppy eared) dogs have ear problems. It's to do with them getting water trapped in their ears, and a build up of wax.  To remove this problem, you need to use an ear ointment ( I use epi-otic on my Labrador) or frequently have the vet perform an aural lavage (ear bath).

Golden Retrievers are similar to Labradors in build/breed, so their main problems are hip displaysia, which is related to arthritis/dislocation of joints. Unfortunately there's not much you can do for that, as it's hereditary.

Weight wise, you want to aim for between 25 and 35 kg's, depending on the height of your dog.

a good weight is 75 to 100 lbs, depending on size and age. If it's getting old, it's normal that it gains weight (old is passed 10). If you think it's sick, simply bring it into a vet, evaluate what the costs are and decide if you keep him or not. Don't let your dog suffer just because you'll be hurt when it dies, we all die and you should use this experience to learn how to deal with death.
