How much does the average hairdresser earn per year. (In England)?

Considering it as a future job and just wanted to see how much I could be earning.

  1. its an average of 37k pounds if you are good. But come on Hairdressing isnt a real job. Get a thick diploma and then do whatever you want to do.  


  2. Next to nothing unless you're lucky. My friend was a hairdresser for about 5 years and was earning 10k.  

  3. Never mind the salary, think of the tips! You can reasonably hope for 10% of the cost. I always give at least £1.00 usually a lot more. I don't know how many clients you'd see in a day, but I should think you could count on a fair bit. Then, once trained you have the opportunity to rent a chair in a salon and go self employed, or be a peripatetic hairdresser, working in peoples homes, hospitals, care homes and the like, you could just work from home if you want a bit of extra money, or even do world tours on cruise liners.     The downside is that all that standing can be very bad for your back and your legs. Maybe you shouldn't do it if you have any problems in those areas, or family history of varicose veins.
