How much dose a real estate agent cost and is there a way to add that to the selling price of our house ?

we need to sell our house asap i've tried craigs list, etc so im down to my last resort a real estate agent. but i dont know how much it will cost to hire one? any one have any ideas

  1. Like Emm said, the agent takes a percentage of the selling price.  Often, that is somewhat negotiable.  You never pay them anything if the house does not sell.  


  2. Most estate agents will set their fees at a percentage of the selling price of the property.  If you don't want to lose this then you could cover it by putting up the price of your home assuming you can still make a sale at this higher price.

    There are also a different type of agent known as fixed fee estate agents.  These won't charge a percentage of value of the sale but instead fix their fees at a set price.  In other words everybody pays the same no matter the value of their property.

  3. In my area, agents take 3% of the selling price of your home.  That is, 3% goes to buyer's agent and another 3% to seller's agent.  I don't know what a 3 month contract costs (when they put their for sale sign in your yard).
