  1. what's a farrier?

  2. Depends upon your location and how much competition you have in your area. Where you do your work makes a difference

    also. A farrier in a rural area might get around $75 / head (4 hooves).In  metropolitan areas around $100 - $150/ head.

If you do 5 or 10 horses per day, you do the math.

If you are one of the farriers at a racetrack you will be busy. A horse will typically race about every two weeks, and they will be shod frequently. Somebody is shoeing those KY Derby

and Belmont Stakes horses ($1,000,000 + stock). I bet that the owner gives the farrier a good tip in appreciation when the horse does well.

Shoeing is a real skill. I knew a standard bred (harness)

farrier that said that a true fitting and custom made shoe can make the difference between being a winner and an also ran.

He said that in making perfect shoes , it's an art of "ounces & inches."

Well, 'nuff said. Good luck. Oh, hope you have a strong back!
