  1. Depends on what part of Spain to some extent and what has been paid in the U.S.A.

    In general though it is probable you'll have to pay the vat (17.5%) plus an import duty on top. The paperwork is pretty horrendous and you'll have to use a Notary and/or shipping agents.

    If you are just cruising for up to 6 months though you can keep your american registration and are allowed to rest in Spanish waters for 6 months (Temporary Importation).

    Frankly its easier and cheaper to buy a boat already in Spain but you don't indicate the size or type you are planning to import


  2. If the boat is less than 15 feet forget to declare it.

    BUT if it is a big boat, you will be robbed blind.

    I imported a Hobie 14. such a boat does not have to be declared on a Spanish income tax return as it is under 5 metres.
