How much education do you need to open up a group daycare?

how much education do you need to open up a group daycare home . i went to school i need to do my practicum and infant and toddler and than i will have my associate in child development without those two will i be able to start a group home daycare not a home daycare i know the difference

  1. I can only answer for Michigan.  If you are in the States...you should be able to get the licensing requirements off of your state page.

    There is no difference in education requirements between a family and a group home.  

    R 400.1905 Training:

    Rule 5. (1) The caregiver shall complete not less than 10 clock hours of trainign each year realted to child development, program planning, and administrative management for a child care buisness, not including CPR and first aid training.

    So you are good to go... having the associate's will be something you can use with advertising.  It's getting more popular now a days but around our area there are very few that will go back and get their CDA because they've been doing this for years and do not see it necessary.  Sad, isn't it?  Unfortunately a lot of those caregivers/teachers are not "up to date" on child development and such...they've balked at the new training requirements and can get away with it because their is a lack of QUALITY child cares.  Most around here are in-home.
