How much electricity does a powerstation

use? Judging by the amount of power cables that go into one I would have thought they require loads of electricity. Why doesn't the government insist they are all turned off and transfer the electricity to houses and hospitals where it's needed.

  1. I believe that you're thinking of a sub-station.  Without going into electrical science here a sub-station starts getting the electricity ready for homes and hospitals.  These stations many times will also act as a large "breaker" that will prevent a surge one area from being transmitted to a large area.

So a sub-station generates no electricity in almost all cases, and uses very little electricity.

  2. Power station - do you mean a power station that generates electricity? Here they need the many cables to get the electricity to go to your house.

Or do you mean a 'sub station' - where all the power lines come to ground and go into grey things (transformers). The substations are there to transform the power from high voltage to a voltage that you can use in your home and actually dont use a lot of power. You might not see the cables leaving these places becasue the cables going out might be burried underground and under the streets.

Or where you making a joke?

  3. Power stations generate electicity , if you turn them off how would you get on here to ask your questions ? lol

  4. You are joking yes?

  5. This is an ID ten T question.

The cables are for getting the power that the station is generating OUT to consumers, not for getting electricity IN!

IDtenT? Try writing it down replacing ten with 10!
