I have a 2.5 gallon and a 1.5 gallon aquarium with pumps. I wanted to know how much electricity would they pull and how can I find out what that translates into a monthly cost. Any suggestions?

  1. look at the pumps there should be a plate or writing on them saying what voltage the run at, it will also state how many amps, and the hertz

  2. most small aquariums to give you an idea only run about the same as a standard 60-100 watt bulb if you left it on all the time. you don't get into major energy usage till you run tanks 20+ gallons. now the only somewhat major energy drain you may have is the tank heater if you are running one with your tank and that is normally the same as a 45 watt bulb running most of the time depending on the room temp and how quickly the water cools down. now to let you know these are only ruff estimates for your tank. the 2.5 gal. tank i have runs a 2.5 watt bulb and has a low suction filter with no heater so it uses very little power.

  3. pumps for that size tank take only about 10 watts. It costs next to nothing to run it.
