Instead of a heavy tungsten filament, it uses two semiconductors to exchange energy (in the form of light energy) from a positive end to a negative. If you want to cut down on energy costs, you can switch your old light bulbs for those newer energy saving ones (you can find them at wall mart for less than 5 dollars). But if you really want to cut down on energy usage, then this summer, keep your AC 2 degrees higher than you normally would.Taking slightly colder showers is also a good way.
