Since power plant dont operate 24/7, I need to know how many hours per year they typically operate.

  1. Well, that plant is producing 1000 MW of electrical power.  A MWh is one MW of power expended for 1 hour.

    So, you need to multiply by the number of hours.  If it produces this amount of power over a year, then multiply by the number of hours in a year (about 8766 hours).

    Wattage is energy/time. It's power.  You can multiply the wattage by any period of time to get watthours.  You could say that they produce 1000 MWe * 1 hr = 1000 MWh in one hour.  You could say that they make 1000 MWe * 24 hr = 24000 MWh in one day.

    I don't know what hours they operate, but you don't need that to come up with a number.


  2. Uh, one thousand megawatt-hours every hour, at full capacity.  

    Most of the time they run nuclear plants at pretty close to capacity.
