I know people that take five minute showers and then some that take hour-long ones. In terms of energy saved, would it be worthwhile to (a) cut down on shower time, and/or (b) bathe with cooler water? Why?

  1. Well first off showering for an hour wastes way too much water.  Secondly energy saved when taking cooler showers or quicker is substanial.  Water has a very high tolerance for heat change.  If you know chemistry then 4.184J/g*C degree is how much energy is used.

So basically 4.184 joules of energy is used to raise water temperture one Celcius degree.

  2. I'm not into cold showers, and I like my hot tub really hot.
