I just got a DVR/cable box installed on my TV. When I turn it off, should I turn off my TV as well?

Also, will it wear out my TV sooner if I don't?

  2. The energy you save depends on the type of television that you have, and how many hours you watch TV each month.

The website below explains the calculations.    A small TV that is watched a LOT (so it is turned off very little) might save you 10 kWh per year (not a lot), whereas a large TV that is not watched much could save you 120 kWh per year (about $10 worth.)

    Great question.

  3. I would also suggest putting the tv, vcr, dvd, etc all on a power strip and shutting the electric off at the power strip when not in use. This will save you from paying for "phantom loads" that use energy even when the appliances are turned off.

  4. Yes turn off every thing

Even the TV set in stand by uses electric

And you do not ware out a TV set

Every time you turn it on is when  you put stress on the electrical components inside it

Power surge it is called the same thing happens when a light bulb burns out 80% of the time it burns out when you turn on the light.

That is why a surge protector is important for all your sensitive electrical equipment.
