  1. i go to a high school of about 2000. I know the heating and cooling bill can be as high as $10,000-$25,000 per month. Once they turn off the heater for spring, it is too expensive to turn back on, so if it is cool outside, we all suffer, as it will be cold inside too.

  2. There is absolutely no way to tell how much energy a school uses based on the number of students.

  3. You can ask the school board those questions. They should be part of the public record.

The next question is how can you reduce the energy used.

Look at what creates the need for the AC, or the heating.

Can the thermostats be turned up a copuple degrees and people can get used to it a bit warmer? Perhaps educating people on the clothing they wear, natural fibers allow evaporation and natural cooling and can be more comfortable than synthetics, and polyesters.

Lights? Outside temp? Heat loss though windows?

Maybe propose insulation efforts. Thermal insulated glass-double panes. Skylights or light tunnels for inside lighting where possible.  Have them look at the total energy bill for the year fo rthe school and get a power company comparison for cost of solar versus the energy use. The plus is that when school is not in, the solar cells would still make energy and put it into the grid for use by others, saving the school more money.  Lot of wind too? then have them look into a couple Windmills  (maybe top of the goal posts on the athletic field) Solar parking lot lights exist. combo system!

Does the school recycle? compost the kitchen lunch room wastes?
