Is this a major load on the electrical system? I am paying about 15 cents a kilowatt hour including delivery charges right now.

  1. it won't use any "extra" power.  If you want to know how much energy the freezer uses, you can look at the nameplate data.  Somewhere on there it should give you a "power" number.  You'll have to do a little math do convert watts or kilowatts to kilowatt hours (which is what the electric company uses).  You'll also have to know how often the freezer runs.

  2. Depends on the freezer.  Depends on the air temp.  Depends on how full you make the freezer.  (Put some water bottles in if it's mostly empty because it works better with stuff in it.)

  3. Extra over what?

The freezer should use the amount of power it needs to keep the interior at the temperature set, and not much extra.

If you mean how much power does it use, you need two pieces of information. first, the power used by the freezer, which you can get from the nameplate or the documentation, and second, the duty cycle, ie, what percentage of the time is it running.

If it's new, there should be a sticker on it with the government's estimate on how much power it uses.
