How much eye contact does a normal person give?

Ive always been shy and never really made eye contact. I just want to know, do you stay at their eyes the whole time during conversation, or do you make brief glances. I dont want to be awkward or anything. I also dont want a girl im talking with to think i like her or something if i make alot of eye contact.

i would say 70% on and 30% brief look aways if im conversing with someone for an extended period of time
