  1. Because a sintered base holds the wax better - it is normally faster. But this only makes a difference after riding for some time after waxing - a freshly waxed extruded base and sintered base will be very similar.

    Sintered is also harder and holds up better - so that plus holding wax better is the reason to pay extra for it.

There's not much of a difference.  Basically, the main difference between the base is how much wax asorption the base can take in, and how frequent you need to get it waxed.  If your talking about maintenance though, a sintered board is better, only because it absorbs more wax than an extruded base, thus, less maintenance is needed.
