  1. Depends on how much effort you put into it. Weight loss / gain will vary from person to person. And it all falls on what you eat and how much. Your body decides where the fat goes.

  2. 11 miles isn't really a lot, so any weight loss would depend as much on how much you eat as on your riding.

That said, it IS possible to lose weight via exercise without paying any attention to diet.

During my peak training weeks leading up to an Ironman triathlon, I have to consciously force myself to eat enough to not go below 140 lbs (my safe minimum - 5% body fat).   However, during those peak weeks, I'm swimming 8-10 miles, riding about 250 miles, and running 50-55 miles (per week).

  3. Depends on level of effort too; if you are riding slow you burn less than if you rode faster for the same period of time.  For example, if you ride for one hour at an average speed of 10 mph and you weigh around 150, you could burn about 400 calories.  Bump up your speed (and distance obviously) to 12 - 14 mph, and you burn closer to 550.  One pound of fat is approx. 3500 calories, so if you rode every day, you could burn off at least one pound of fat per week if you ride at least an hour at a good pace.   What happens longer term though is the best part; you build up muscle which ramps up your metabolism, and burns fat all by itself!  One pound of muscle mass added on to your body means an extra 100 calories per day burned off naturally, with no exercise needed, however, you must keep exercising to maintain the muscle.

So my point is this; ride six days a week if you can, but take at least one day off for recovery each week.   You'll start to lose weight, tone up your muscles, and will want to go farther and longer.  The beginning of this summer I got worn out doing six miles, and today I did 20 no prob.  I've lost about 8 pounds too, and am getting nice muscles on my legs :)

  4. It's possible that you might lose none at all depending on how many calories you had eaten and how fast your metabolism is. Your body doesn't start to burn up fats- a state called ketosis- until it has burned up all the carbohydrates and sugars.

  5. On the road, probably 15 pounds if you kept it up and pushed yourself a little.

Off road, every last bit youve got.  10 cross country/all mountain, miles, and youre gettin some excersize and some fun at the same time.
