How much food do I buy for an art opening/party of 10-20 people?

Question

I was thinking of wine, cheese with crackers and fruit. More people may show up. I don't usually entertain. All menu ideas/food quantities welcome.

This is my first art opening. I don't want to mess it up!

well when i have partys  it usaly has that amont so id say cheese        

and cracers and maby chips and every one loves fruit so if your party is long you might need alot of food because more people might show up at your party if your party is long then you will need food!!!!!

According to my cookbook: allow 4 oz. of Hor d'Oeuvres per person. As for drink consumption 2 drinks per person for the first hr.  1 drink per person ea. following hour. A serving of wine is 5.5oz. So 6 standard bottles of will give you 30 servings at that size. Hope this helps.

well youll need about 3 trays of littel sandwiches arranged in circle after circle on the tray about 2 large trays that have divided areas filled with summer sausage crackers cheese vegis fruti etc...i would  say a bowl of sherbert pinapple puch that u would have to refill about 4 or 5 times but i see that u want wine good choice!u could even try muffins and cookies and cake for sweet treats just in a small size

The good thing is, wine, cheese and crackers can be used later if you don't use them now.

Wine: get 5 red, 3 white, 2 dessert wines.  Most stores give a discount if you buy more than 6 bottles.

Cheese: have the deli slice 1 lb cheddar, 1 lb swiss, 1 lb provalone.  Also get 2 packages of favored cream cheese.

Crackers: an assortment of 3 lbs.  Thin sliced bread is also good.

Fruit: Cherries, strawberries and grapes are in season right now.  Get at least 2 lbs each.  Serve with regular and chocolate whipped cream.

Stuffed mushrooms or mini quiches will go over well too.  You'll need 2 dozen.  General rule is make sure there are 2 for each guest.  You can buy them at Costco or Sams in the frozen section, so you can always buy extra and use them later.
