  1. As a caterer I'd suggest you stick to all cold food. try to make as many dishes that can be made ahead of time. You really don't want you or your Mom or your good friends having to be in the kitchen all day. Some easy items are giant sandwiches or wraps made with large tortillas, flavored cream cheese with meats, cheese and lettuce. Pasta, potato or green salad. Strawberries and other seasonal fruit. If there is a microwave on site you can melt chocolate chips with heavy cream coated not swimming and make a chocolate fondue for the strawberries. Kinda a poor man's chocolate fountain. You'll need a chafing dish to keep it warm. Be sure to borrow or rent some of those giant coolers and use dry ice on the bottom to keep things cool.  Because there is rarely enough fridge space anywhere you go when you have food for 150. Serve iced tea and lemonade rather than soda. Don't forget the ice, sugar and lemon slices plus some sweet-n-low. Flavored syrups like raspberry and peach allow your guests to personalize their drinks and add some variety. Rent a big punch bowl or beverage container for water. Bottled water is very expensive and don't skimp on cups. You need about 4 per person as the guests abandon them because they can't figure out which one is theirs. If you'd like a cheese appetizer consider making a pesto torte with softened cream cheese mixed with Parmesan cheese and black pepper molded in a large plastic wrapped lined bowl. Fill with purchased basil pesto cap with some of the cheese mixture and top with store bought sun dried tomato pesto. Serve with crackers or sliced baquettes. This dish holds up well in the heat, looks pretty and is alot less expensive than a cheese platter. You could add sliced salami and some black and green olives too. I hope this gave you some ideas.

  2. Depending on the time of day, you could just do a DESSERT BUFFET ...... trays of petit fours, chocolate covered strawberries, fancy cookies, cream puffs .. and, of course, wedding cake ....  Maybe have a Candy Bar too (bins or baskets of wrapped candies, for guests to fill little bags and take home) ... and maybe a chocolate fountain.....Just serve lemonade, ice tea, coffee and wine........

  3. Here's what I did for my first wedding.  Munchies.  Go to Costco or Sam's Club for your food and plates, glasses and flatware.  We had turkey and ham sandwiches with cheese, fruit salad, tortilla chips and salsa.  My relatives donated the cake (aunt's a pro-baker), other relatives made the salads and served them, I got the champagne cheap from a friend who owns a liquor store.  (Cook's, tastes just like a $30 bottle!)  Get everyone to help a bit.  It doesn't have to be a fancy buffet, nobody will remember.  Go straight to the dance and let your guests munch at will!  Congrats!

  4. It's best if you have hardy foods more so than fingerfoods and salad. They aren't filling and people will eat it all before you know it. Go with things like pastas, breads, meats, soups and of course cake. Also, encourage your guests to bring a dish.

  5. do a buffet and serve

    1 big salad

2 pasta dishes like stuffed shells and penne vodka

1 chicken dish like chicken parmasan or chicken marsala

1 fish dish like stuffed filet of sole or salmon

1 beef dish like whole beef tenderloin in mushroom sauce

full  trays of each item will feed like 25 people so you will need to have approx 6 trays of each item.

i catered my engagement party for 13.00 per person and had a very similar menu to this one except not filet mignon it was sausage & peppers

  6. When are you getting married?  That changes the things that would be good at the wedding.

  7. Local deli or dept. of your grocery store can prepare trays of mini sandwiches, condements, etc., reasonably.
