I'm having my son's birthday party this weekend and I am feeding the parents too. The place I am having the party at has sandwich and appetizer platters that feed between 6-8 people, pizzas, and a veggie tray that feeds up to 12 people. How many platters would be enough? I really don't want much food left over. Thanks!

  1. Are you just asking how many veggie platters or ALL the food?? If its just the platters, I would only get 2. That would serve 24. And remember not everyone will eat off the veggie platter considering there is other food available.

The sandwhich platters I would get about 4-5 and that would feed about 24-32 people. Then The pizzas not get more than maybe 3.

  2. A lot of food. =]

  3. You want to figure the food out by weight.  3/4 pound to 1 pound of food is usually required.

When several types of dishes are offered, everything being served should be taken into consideration.  Children will not eat as much as adults.  Figure on 1/2 pound each for the children if they are really young.  How old are they?  How many children?  What is the age range of the adults (are only the adults eating the appetizer platters?)?  What time of day will this party be held?

Find out from the restaurant how much each tray weighs.

  4. 1 pound of food altogether per a person.

  5. 5 appetizer trays

    3 pizzas

I worked as a Catering manager once...Rule of thumb is 1.5 per person and .75 for children under 7 years old.

Based on those calculations...I suggested the above for your party

Oh By the Way...Bring some Zip Loc bags in case you have left over...I know that sometimes they do not let you take left overs, but at least you can grab some Crudite ( veggie platter) items in the zip loc bags.
