How much for a reigns?

Ok so I'm leasing a horse at my barn, and yesterday had an "incident" where I broke the owners reigns.

incident:

I had just come back from my lesson, and had had to let someone else use the saddle, so I had been riding bareback. With nothing but his bridle on, I walked him right up to the crossties outside his stall, threw the reigns over his neck, and undid the bridle. The second I had the bit out of his mouth, he used all of his quarter horse strength to turn and walk -slowly, but with no attention to my yanking- into his stall. Well, with me holding the head part, the reigns around his neck, and part of the reigns getting caught in some metal on his door, the reigns snapped. They snapped where the whole is, and although this happens to event he best of people who work with this horse, I feel really bad, and want to buy the owners a new pair of reigns. I'm pretty sure that another whole can be punched into the broken reigns, but even so I'm buying her another pair. How much for them?

  1. the ones I have were £60 from ingatestone

  2. it is spelled REINS

  3. First off the "reign" you speak off its like a dictator reigns over his people.

The part of the bridle you hold on to is spelled rein.

It also depends on the brand you buy they can cost you 20 dollars or 200 dollars depending on the quality of the leather. Also don't think that an experience person cant tell the difference between off brand reins and name brand ones because the truly DO make a difference. If you want to still buy him/her some figure out the name brand of the bride and match it to the brand of reins you buy.

  4. I would suggest calling a local tack store. Most tack stores can differ in price ranges and it would be best to call a few and decide where you want to go. I believe they are around $30 but I did see some for $300 dollars, so it just depends your tack store. Good luck and bummer!

P.S. It is spelled reins =]

  5. I personally dont think you should pay for the new reins. it seems to me that the horse was at fault, therefor not you. So, the horse started walking, its the owners responsibility to teach the horse not to do that.

But if you do buy some reins, you can go to a store like Tractor Supply Co (TSC) and pay about $10 to $15. I would worry about buying nice looking reins if i was in the situation.

  6. she has told you to go cheap, so check around...you can get them for as little as 20 dollars.  You are right to replace the reins, and I give you credit for your integrity.

  7. A lot of reins have had their prices going up. At your local tackshop your looking at a pair of reins for $20minimum and there is no point in buying second hand because they could be just as bad shape as the reins you had before they got broken. If ou are leasing the horse than buy good reins because even though you will be giving back the bridle your still going to be using them while leasing.

Anyways go onto some online stores aroudn the net, search google and go online saddlery stores

    Goodluck

  8. i've seen reins from $30 - $200 so see what type of reins they were and go from there

    GOOD LUCK
