Which is the better bus line and how long will this take?

Actually, the bus is faster by and hour or two because the trains between Rome and Pescara are all regional trains with a lot of stops. The price for the bus is 15 euro each way; 11.70 euro is correct for the train.

There are fewer trains running during the summer schedule but there will still be at least one every couple of hours, but you need to pay attention because some of the trains leave from Roma Termini station and some from Roma Tiburtina.

I've used both the bus and the train to go from Rome to Pescara - but I recommend the bus over the train.  The train ride takes almost 4 hours because it stops about 10 times along the way while the bus ride is only 2.5 hours with one stop in Chieti Scalo.

All the buses leave from Roma Tiburtina station and they cost €15 each way.  The bus line I've used is called ARPA - you can view schedules and even buy tickets online at www.arpaonline.it (only available in Italian, but not difficult to figure out).

Well the train would only be about 24 euros, (11,70 each way.) - possibly less if you buy the round trip up front.

Note, super fast rains are often more $$$ than a regular train., Maybe an hour's difference in travel time.

edit:

I see those with experience say the buses on that route are faster, so that's good to know.  I still like trains better.  I have been caught in traffic jams in buses and missed planes, etc. (not in Italy, but still it affects my memory) Also it's fun to walk in trains, get a drink at the bar, and the restrooms are nicer.

Overall it's less cramped, and in this case cheaper, so go ahead and take a bus if speed is priority.
