How much would it cost to get a working visa for Berlin, Germany as an American?

  1. Are you asking about the application fee?

    I cannot remember, I think the work permit itself was free. You had to pay quite a lot for the residency permit though. But even if I am wrong it shouldn't be more than 100 EUR.

    The problem with the working visa is not how much it costs, but that it is hard to get. A potential employer has to prove that there is no EU citizen and no resident alien with a valid work permit available for the job before you will be able to get a work permit.

    A residency permit itself is easy, you'll just need to be able to support yourself with a monthly income of roughly 750 EUR. So for a one-year residency permit in Berlin you'll need to have 13500 USD in the bank (at the current exchange rate). In essence that is the real cost of a residency permit - not the 65 EUR (IIRC) application fee you pay.
