  1. you have to have a mooring spot in most mariners if you are staying there, for electric etc. harbours throught the harbour master, and cost, depending on your budget can go into millions.

  2. I agree with my RYA instructor colleague above.

Suggest prior to buying anything you first get experience and know what owning a boat entails. yachmaster theory and practical courses are recommended, as it is not as simple as driving a car on a road. the sea / tides and wind are not simple and you need to know what you are doing.

Once you have a boat, the knowledge then yes you can radio or telephone ahead to a marina and book in for a berth, or anchor at sea in suitable areas.

You can spend anything from a few thousand for a cheap second hand yacht up to millions... Boating is not cheap. Even the smallest dinghy costs you a lot of money to keep going in parts etc...  suggest you take some time to research it well.  Join the RYA is the best suggestion

  3. First of all learn to sail. By the nature of your question being very general I think you need to do this first.

If you follow the RYA yacht schemes from competent crew to day skipper you will learn information such as this as well as learning to sail.

Yachts can vary from a few thousand (or hundreds if in poor condition) to many hundreds of thousands. You need to know what you are buying.

Alternatively join a sailing club in your area and crew for someone else for a while. It is a great way to learn.
