Here is the problem. I babysit for a 7 year old girl. She comes to my house at 5:30 a.m until 4:45 p.m. I don't have her from 12-2:30. Because of school. I watch here Monday through Thursday. I get paid $70.00. Well here is the problem. I told them I can't watch her monday because I have to go out of town. So when they picked here up yesterday they said she was not coming today. I gave them a weeks notice and they didn't even give me 24 hours notice. Should I charge the full $70.00? On top of that during spring break and Christmas break they didn't pay any extra for having her the whole day. But when she isn't her the whole week they are quick to say how much do I owe you. $70.00 that is cheap there is no one else out there for that cheap now a day's. What should I do with summer coming up? Should I charge the whole amount this week. HELP!!!

  1. youre right nowadays 70.00 can not get you anything so i suggest you try to find applications for more jobs, and see how much they pay . if they pay good quit this job and get the money you deserved and dont not take the money cause you gave up your time to do the job so they have to pay you what yo earned thats my advice hope it helps

  2. For this situation, I would just ask them what you both should do to compromise. However, it is a great idea to set up a contract for this summer. As a parent, I was more comfortable with exact outlines of what was expected between child care provider and parent. I had a great babysitter when my son was a toddler. She required a two week notice to terminate for either party. The rate didn't change if I chose to not bring him that day. However, she did allow for a week or two vacation away each year. Her contract was pretty thourough, but I wasn't offended at all. It made it easier for both of us.

Now....I had another babysitter when my son started kindergarten and it was a disaster! She was really flexible and didn't want to do a contract or anything. So when I had to pull out a few months later, I gave her a week's notice and her last check. She was so a mess that she cried and said that it wasn't fair???? I would have preferred that she put her expectations in writing up front. I thought a week's notice was plenty since she was so laid back at first.

As for the going rate...$125 week with meals provided, I would say. You are still responsible for her while she is at school. If she needed to be picked up, you would get her right? Plus, 5:30am is pretty kind of you, that's early. They won't find that elsewhere. They have a good deal with you.

I would suggest a written plan for the summer, and raise the rate a little.

  3. Tell them to give you your money and if they don't take it court.
