I am traveling to India this summer and will be visiting New Delhi, Agra, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and Gulbaraga, in that order. I want to buy saris, shalwar kameez, lengha cholis, and other Islamic clothing (i.e Abayas, hijabs, etc.) What is the going rate for any of these items in their respective cities? Where is the best place to get clothes out of the places mentioned above? Is it fairly easy to find clothes that are already made instead of just fabric? Any tips for buying clothes in India?

  1. I Used to often shop for my wife when I would visit India Alone. Delhi and I suppose Ahmedabad would be cheapest for general clothes Lucknow would be wonderful for Chickan(a type of handwork on cotton )which is very wonderful. I would suggest that you spend a good amount there. Hyderabad would be a good place to get clothes like salwar kameez.. My wife got 55 salwar kameez's stitched  for approx  USD 1500- 2000.

On a different note if you are going in summer just dont expect to much done with the heat especially in Delhi.

I just returned from Hyderabad may first week.  I just couldnt move out much in the last 3 weeks of April.  However if you went say 4-6 weeks from now the heat in and around Hyderabad will be slightly less.  Delhi on the other hand will be at its peak

  2. I would suggest not to buy cloths in India, just bring your own cloths and just buy a souvenir.

  3. Old part of Delhi, Lucknow and Hyderabad will be ideal for stuff you want.Remember to shop around traditional and old markets and always bargain down prices.

  4. There is very good to shop for clothes in INDIA. All world class Branded Designer clothes are at very reasonable prices because of INDIAN CURRENCY  against $ & URO$ is cheaper.ENJOY FULL FLEDGE SHOPPING IN INDIA.THNX. Ilove u all
