On both of the 7 days cruises I took last year (Alaska & Caribbean), there were 2 Formal nights and 2 semi formal nights

You will have 2 dressy nights for dinner( this is normal for a 7 day cruise) That would be the only time that we dress dressy ie. gown,tux or suit. The other evenings we wear capris, dockers,etc. The dining rooms won't permit jeans or shorts( during the dinner hour)

I just came back from a 7-day cruise and usually they have one or two formal nights in the dining room where you have to wear formal clothes. However, it depends on how formal the specific cruise is and where you plan to go on the actual cruise ship (eg. a formal bar/casino/dining room).

You'll have 2 formal nights.  You can wear the same formal outfit both nights or take along 2 outfits.

The best idea is to pack as light as possible since you have to handle your luggage at the begining and end of your cruise. I always pack too much, but last November a brought one dress and one pant suit; I was able to wear the pants with several other tops for dinner. My son brought a pair of dress slacks that he wore each night to dinner and then on the formal, he paired it with a jacket.

It all depends on what type of curise you're going to take.  If its a freestyle cruise, its 0.  If its anyother cruise with formal nights, then you will need to check with the cruise on their website or your travel agent.

When we went on a 7 day freestyle cruising to Hawaii, it was freestyle, therefore, we did not bring any formal wear.

When we went on a 14 day curise to the Carribeans, we brought 2 formals, one for each week.

It really depends on your cruise.  A lot of regular cruisers like myself don't really care about the formal night anymore because we've been there and done that.

I take 2 formal dresses, but I save space in my suitcase by making sure they both match one pair of dress shoes.

There are 2 formal nights, the rest are resort casual. A guy can get away with one suit  and then dockers and polos for the rest of the nights. Women dress up or down each night depending on thier whim. If you dont want to dress up there's always the choice of the casual buffet .
