I just started feeding him rice cereal with his last bottle of the night. He eats about 1 1/2 Tbsp.

What do I do next?

  1. I don't agree with rice cereal in a bottle. If your baby isn't old enough to eat off a spoon then it isn't old enough for rice cereal full stop. If your baby is having all 8oz bottles then you put them on the next stage milk. If he/she is still hungry then you start with the rice cereal on a spoon. At first babies should still drink the same amount of milk. Solids at first should be as well of their milk not instead of.

  2. Keep giving the same amount of formula for now-baby will slow down on the milk when his tummy is fuller. Then you can adjust accordingly.

  3. Just feed them the same amount you normally would. Whenever my son has any kinds of solids it is after he has had his milk. Since he is breastfed I don't know if it makes him drink any less, but it certainly doesn't make him drink any less often than normal, or take any less time than it normally does.

Food at this point in their lives in mainly only for exploration of tastes, textures, colours, temperatures etc and milk remains their main source of nutrition up until they are a year old I am pretty sure.

So just feed him his bottle first, whatever he normally takes, then feed him his rice cereal after and see how much of that he takes.

    Good luck
