He has been taking 7 oz now about every 3-4 hrs but is that healthy? Also I was wondering could I give him less formula and just start him with organic rice cereal and some formula? He is a big boy! My son isn't your average size 3.5 month old so wouldn't my son eat more than an average baby?

  1. Rice cereal will make him gain more weight.  He is eating the correct amount of formula.

  2. From the age of two months up to six months, you should be feeding your baby 120-180ml / 4-6oz at a feeding, and he'll have anything from 700ml to over a litre / 23 to 35oz a day.

this site tells you about formula:

yes your baby is doing fine. From my experience,  baby only took 6 oz. and he's doing fine and healthy so you should be fine

  3. Your son is eating fine. mine was the same way, but since the day he came home from the hospital he was eating 8-9 ounces every 2-4 hours. i skipped rice cereal and went straight to the baby food at four months.

but every baby is different. i say try the rice cereal first.

Signs of readiness for solid food

Your baby probably won't do all these things — they're just clues to watch for.

    • Can hold head up

    • Sits well in highchair

    • Makes chewing motions

    • Shows significant weight gain (birth weight has doubled)

    • Shows interest in food

    • Can close mouth around a spoon

    • Can move food from front to back of mouth

    • Can move tongue back and forth, but is losing tendency to push food out with tongue

    • Seems hungry after 8 to 10 feedings of breast milk or 40 oz. of formula in a day

    • Is teething

    How much per day

    • Begin with about 1 teaspoon dry rice cereal mixed with 4 to 5 teaspoons breast milk or formula (it'll be very runny).

    • Gradually thicken consistency and increase to 1 tablespoon dry cereal mixed with breast milk or formula, twice a day.

    Feeding tips

    • If your baby won't eat the cereal on the first try, offer it again in a few days.

My son still eats more than an average baby, and was just about the same weight (maybe a little more than yours) at 3 1/2 months.

he is now 9 months old and is 28 lbs 12 ounces : 30 inches long (ive got a football player in the making lol)

  4. Hello, our daughter at 3 months old was 18 pounds. She drank the same as what you are giving your son. If he is drinking it all then I wouldn't worry about it being too much as a baby will stop feeding if they are too full. I tried my daughter on cereal too cause I figured she would eat it, but she would just spit it up. DO NOT PUT IT IN A BOTTLE. People will say to do this, but if you do, when they do start eating it with a spoon at around  months (my daughter started at 5 months) the taste from the spoon will be familiar and they will only want it in a bottle as that is where they first tasted it. If you want to try him on cereal, then just make it really runny like his formula and use a baby spoon.  But your baby is just healthy, our daughter is now 7 months and weighs 21 pounds so she is bigger too and healthy as a horse.

  5. At 3 1/2 months your baby should still be on the feed on demand policy.  That means.... they eat as much as they want whenever they want.  Eating every 3-4 hours is fine.  their tummy's are still tiny at this age.... and need to eat frequently.  I know my son was eating that much at that age..... and he also was a big baby.  Your sons weight will begin to lvl off some in the following months,,,,,, when he begins to become more active and also starts solids.  I would ask your ped. about starting rice cereal.... but babies at 3 1/2 months.... even though eating a lot..... usually aren't ready for solids.  I would try and hold off on starting cereal for about another month.
