I understand that it varies, but how much time in general do you have for yourself?

Are you a hermit confined to the hospital?

Or do you have to to occasionally go to the bar, hang out with friends (other than your med buddies), have a girl friend, go skiing ect...

Spank you

  1. You don't have much during your PGY-1 year, but you'll still have vacation where you can relax.  As you advance in your training, you will find that  you have more free time, and you'll likely drink more.

  2. None

  3. ZERO, free time is spent studying so you can get through residency.

  4. Seriously, of course there is free time. You don't have to work every weekend, just some of them. Yes, of course you can socialize, but just not as much as your age-peers not in Medical residency.

One does typically get three weeks annual leave per year and most do go away on vacations during that time.
