  1. A  Litre is a little more than a Quart. Small 2 stroke outbords do not use much gas at all especially if you do not race the engine, which tends to throw  unburned fuel out of the exhaust.

I take a 25 horse power 2 stroke outboard out on a saltwater Bay. Cruise around on and off all day with a 2 gallon tank and still have plenty leftover when I return to the dock.

Your 4 HP motor should be able to do the same on a litre.

Just to be safe take a half pint extra for the tackle box..

  2. seems like  you can troll (which is mostly a fast idle) all afternoon on a gallon of fuel.

I think a liter will run you at least two hours on an engine that small.

  3. most two stroke outboard motors will burn 10% of their hp in gas at RATED WIDE OPEN THROTTLE when equipped with correct prop(correct rpms operating range) a 15hp motor will burn 1.5 gas a120 hp will burn 12 gals gas a 4hp will burn.16 gals etc. this formula isnt perfect but it works 90% of the time. I have worked in a fleet operation for years and this works very well. I used to run our service boat(many different engines) and always was very accurate. one hour running time away on the 200 hp would require between 19 and 21 gals of fuel when I returned. ps motor ran @ correct w.o.t all the time!(not much idle or anything was just used point a to point b)

  4. K...I'm Canadian eh?

So like, a gallon(Imp. or US) is a little over 4 litres for our purposes here. Basically for my US compatriates...a litre is a a little less than a Quart.

So...my use with a 6 hp is about an hour flat out with a litre. I do not recomment long periods at idle for any engine...but it would probably idle for about 3 hours.
