Question:

How much garlic is dangerous?

I am consuming raw garlic, chopped up in avocado or other dips... two cloves each day so far. I am doing this as a detox because something has caused a slight breakout of my skin (the summer perspiration, i think, added to the city's pollution).

My mom said garlic was a blood thinner, and that I should be careful.

How much is too much? How many raw cloves can I eat a day and for how long?

  1. 2 cloves a day is completely safe as long as you don't have any blood problems. It is indeed a blood thinner. You shouldn't take that much if you are a teenager, if you take aspirin or other medications that can also interfere with your blood. Do not take if you are diabetic.  Also, don't take it if you're pregnant or nursing without consulting a professional.

With that being said, 2 cloves is a great remedy. It's antibacterial, antifungal, lowers cholesterol and does a few other things. There are also pills available that don't make your breath taste and smell of garlic, which is my prefered method.

I've used garlic for detox many times and for infections. With detox, if you start to feel lightheaded or too dizzy, stop the garlic and rebuild the dose slowly... but with 2 cloves, I don't think you'll have a problem.

You can take it for as long as you like. I've never needed it for more than a week or two for even the infections.

  2. for health, one should take at least 3 cloves a day,

It is good to have thin blood not bad,,.,if one is bleeding and can't stop it, use cayenne on the cut..it will stop bleeding.

I spoke to an old woman in the store handing out flier to people on how she cured an illness doctors said would kill her taking an entire bulb of garlic a day..the  whole plant as bought from the store..she had prayed for the answer to not die and she was so grateful she was telling people off the street about it..her cart had several bulbs of garlic in it..she took it with yogurt and cottage cheese and dairy to prevent the burning she got from the strong acid...I also read of a person who totally reversed diabetes doing nothing but eating an entire bulb of garlic a day so I would not worry about 2 or 3 cloves at all.  Garlic has multiple health effects and can only do good for you,  so people have taken way more with no ill effect.

Like many people, they worry when people are doing good things saying will drinking all this peppermint tea or taking garlic or taking lots of fresh juices etc hurt you/me, but have no problem with smoking packs of cigarettes, drinking several beers and pops, eating lots of fast foods and junk and so forth.

Although I am sure mom is trying to help, remember it is those unhealthy and common bad habits we have that she should be worried about not the healthy thing you are doing.

If she is worried about garlic if you increase it, remind her of the things that she should truly worry about and keep improving your diet and healthy lifestyle changes despite her fears as it is your body..do not worry so much about god/nature made foods but man made/altered ones which are ever so much more harmful and you will be fine.

You can safely take garlic the rest of your life and be doing only good for your health,

  3. Up to five cloves a day you save, unless you have an allergy to the sulphate in garlic, which you don't. You'll be very healthy, but the smell of garlic will come trough your pores every time you sweat.

  4. There is a classic French chicken recipe w/ 40 cloves of garlic in it.  You have nothing to worry about, except perhaps a bad case of garlic breath.  Chew some raw parsley or make your garlic w/ lemon and parsley as in gremolata.  Feed everyone in your family the garlic as well, and no one will mind the smelly breath.  From my perspective (and many other people's), there is no such thing as too much garlic.
