alright. i think people misunderstood what i was trying to accomplish last time i asked, so im asking again.

i work for the BC government and am trying to calculate a ministries "carbon footbprint". i am not concerened with how many MPG it will get to save me money. im not buying a truck.

i would just like to know approx. how much gas (litres or gallons, i can convert) an AVERAGE 1990-2000ish s10 (or equivilent sized truck) would use in 1 hour of driving (city or highway). if you know what it might be in weeks or days, that is fine too, i can do all the calculations. and, im sure for my purposes, the year wouldnt really matter all that much.

Thanks.

Paul

  1. if you drive for an hour at 95MPH non-stop;  you'll get a very different answer if you drive one hour at 55MPH non stop.

i dont think anyone can give you a "right" answer for that question.  they can try and give you hypothetical answers.

get in the truck and drive it

  2. well, if a vehicle gets 30 miles per gallon and is going 30 miles an hour, it uses 1 gallon of fuel. so, you need to find out what the mpg average is and what your average speed per hour used is.

  3. Since these trucks get 16-21 MPG and this number would be divided into the average distance driven, you simply have to figure out out many miles they are driven per hour. Since the range can be from zero (parked) to 75 (one hour of non-stop freeway driving) it is on you as to which number to use. Lets say for argument that you use 20 miles driven per hour and your truck gets 20 miles per gallon, then the answer would be one gallon.

  4. rough estimate about 5 gallons an hour driving on highway and about 3 gallons per hour in city. i come to this by saying if you were driving for an hour on highway and your average speed was say 60 mph and your truck got 15 to 20 mpg you would use about 5 gallons per hour and since most city you do a lot of sitting at lights and excellerating and stoping i say about 3 gallons per hour. hope this helps......
