  1. Depends on what you are trying to do.  If you are trying to shock it add 2 pounds and let it sit for an hour before swimming.  If you are trying to maintain your chlorine level for swimming you need to adjust your chemical dispenser to add chlorine throughout the day to read 1.0 to 5.0.
