How much gunpowder would a typical shotgun shell have?

  1. Different propellants have different energy densities. It's been over a century since gunpowder was all pretty well gunpowder in the old blackpowder days. With modern smokeless propellants, your question no longer makes sense. You're welcome to look at the variety available in shotshell reloading manuals, though.


  2. That totally depends on what gauge of shotgun and the type of round...a 2 3/4 inch round will have less powder than a 3 inch magnum round, a 20 gauge will have less powder than a 12 gauge...etc.
