Do you mean upper division compared to lower division?  If so, it's not so much that it's harder, but just more focused on specific topics.  Lower divisions are usually survey classes, where they touch a bit on each portion of a subject.  This means it never gets complex or in depth but the sheer volume of topics can be a lot of stuff to remember.

    Usually, when you take upper division courses in your major you will actually enjoy it more than lower division courses.  This is as, assuming you majored in something you enjoy, you will find the topics fascinating to study rather than think of it as a chore.
