Question:

How much have electric rates increased in the past ten years?

Right now it seems that local municipalities can offer electricity cheaper than a private entity can produce it, via wind or solar, but will that always be the case...

Follow up question: does it make sense (financially) to invest in these technologies now as a hedge against inflation?

  1. In my area we average about 5% a year.

I plan on staying in my house forever, so I'm installing solar panels, with my rebates my system will pay for itself in less than 6 years. I am working on having the lowest expenses possible when we retire.

  2. Between 1986-2006 electricity prices nationwide increased by an average of 1.9%. Those are the most recent numbers you will find based on NERC studies.
