How much hydrocodone is too much?

Suffering from a gout attack in my toe/foot. taken four 7.5/500 in past 5 hours. Last 2 taken 2 hours ago. I want to take 2 more, but the bottle says max daily dose 4 pills. What's the deal?

The biggest problem with your Vicodin ES is the acetaminophen (Tylenol) it contains.  You do not want to exceed 4000mg of acetaminophen in a 24 hour period.  The max dose of four pills only equals 2000mg.  You want to be careful because a lot of other medications contain acetaminophen.

You would also be concerned with CNS (Central Nervous System) depression with the hydrocodone, specifically breathing.  Opiates cause CNS depression which in turn causes your breathing to become slower and more shallow.  Too much of this depression can actually cause your breathing to stop...not very conducive to life!

Use it as directed. You will hurt your liver using more.Call your doctor and go to see him

If you are finding that the hydrocodone is not working for you, call your doctor as he/she is the best judge of what to give you in its place.  Taking too much hydrocodone is definitely dangerous and toxic to your liver.  If you aren't getting proper pain relief you need to let your doctor know immediately.
