How much impact did Al Gore's movie have on people's opinion of Global Warming?

I got the impression from watching that movie that almost no scientists disagreed with global warming theory. I can find a bunch on the internet though. Here is one.

  1. I had to laugh at all the flaws in his movie and all the lies he is spreading.

  2. I don't think it changed any minds, if that's what you're asking. I watched it out of curiosity, but didn't learn anything especially new and didn't come out any stronger a believer than I had been before I saw the movie. Most AGW skeptics I know refused to see it on principle.

It probably had the biggest impact among people who weren't very aware of the issues, and I hope it at least got people thinking about them.

Of its unintended impacts, the most annoying is that many skeptics seem to think watching AIT is all the research we AGW proponents have ever done. I'm sure that's true of some, but definitely not all, and I get really sick of people harping on and on about Gore and his hypocrisy and the "errors" (most of which aren't - http://www.skepticalscience.com/al-gore-... ) in his movie when it really had nothing to do with why I and many other AGW proponents believe AGW is occurring.

Almost no scientists do disagree with global warming. Most of those who do are on the payroll of energy companies, or aren't physical scientists at all. I put less weight behind the skepticism of a biologist than a climatologist, for example, and some of the efforts to prove a lack of consensus in the scientific community have included signatures not only from people in the biological sciences, but also people in the social sciences and even humanities. Really, really convincing there, dudes.

  3. Huge! We have changed a lot. His movie was just the beginning here. I try to get everyone to watch it.

Before watching I was really skeptical of the whole "idea". Afterward, I had trouble sleeping...made me open my eyes a lot. Now were so green it annoys people :)

  4. I don't know how much impact it has had on people's opinion, I have noticed that it has brought the discussion about it to the forefront.

What I do not understand is why are so many people claiming that there is no Global Warming, other than the fact that Al Gore is making money on it.

I think that more people would tend to see Al Gore in a better light, if he was doing more and talking less.

He now has, and has always had the money to convert his personal holding to energy efficient-ency..

Why isn't he installing Solar and or wind power on his houses.

and why is he not driving an electric or hydrogen powered car, at least on local commuting.

It is time for those that want to lead the way into a new era of conservation, to stop talking, and start leading by example.

  5. Not near as much as the facts. Even those who disagreed a year ago have come around to the truth. Even the President cannot deny it anymore.

  6. It changed Al Gore's life.

He went from an overweight, bearded, reclusive, millionaire presidential loser to a cleaned-up, clean-shaved, multimillionaire, man-made global warming scam artist loser.

Hollywood is in the business of showing us lies and making us believe they are true.

  7. I watched it in my class, and it had a big change on me. I understood why the "people in charge" aren't doing anything about it. And I begin to wonder too why they choose money over world. I'm scared for the future. And I'm only a teen, so I'm scared for my children and their children. I hope the next president will try harder to push on more clean energy, less-pollutene cars, and a better future for not just America, but have an impact the world.

  8. I really believe this is the answer to all of our problems:

  9. Well if he had told the truth, then it might have made a difference,  Now its just wasted oil to make the plastic cases to house the movies.

    that was a waste.

  10. I don't think Gore's movie had as much an impact as it could have had.  It seemed to me that about one-third of the movie was about Gore, including the Florida election nonsense. By including that in the movie I think he eliminated almost half the potential audience that might have been swayed by the arguments otherwise.

There are very few physical scientists that disagree, at least in general, with anthropogenic global warming.  You found one, here's another William Gray, hurricane expert.  Roger Pielke, another well-known atmospheric scientist, has many doubts also.  Now you have three.

Of course it's easy to find hundreds that do accept it, just look at the IPCC report.

  11. i think the movie only made an impact at bringing the topic to light. few everyday people thought about the seriousness of it. because of his documentary, (even in his unpopularity with many) it showed the country that we should be more aware of our environment. how far we have come industrially and the effects of that.

if you dont believe in it. keep your thoughts to yourself. there are many people that take this seriously want want to turn this around. just because you hate al gore doesnt mean you need to disregard your planets welfare.

  12. I'm sure that most left-wingers bought into the Madison-Avenue effort, but most informed folks have not.  I don't count politicians' opinions because how they (politicians) swing is based on who can come up with the most campaign contributions.  The Warmers are vocal and well-funded.

Many scientists find themselves between a rock and a hard spot....... if they want to keep getting grant money or even keep their jobs...... many feel compelled to bite their lip and go along with the so-called 'consensus'.

  13. It didn't have any impact at all on me. I only watched it because my sister wanted company. I get my science information from the scientific literature, not from documentaries.

There's almost no theory in science where every single scientist agrees.  Global Warming is no different.  These links include more than a few PhD's that think the earth is only a few thousand years old:

    http://www.trueorigin.org/imp-269a.asp

Given that there are literally millions of people in the world with PhD's in various scientific fields, finding a few that disagree with the consensus or mainstream view isn't hard.  Lindzen is a respectable climate scientists, but his theory of why the earth wouldn't warm up much in response to CO2 emissions didn't hold up to the scrutiny of his peers.

  14. Unfortunately, people are buying into it as pure and unbiased fact.  The truth is, that movie has more holes, misleading information, inaccuracies, presumptions, and downright lies than any other credible documentary should be allowed to have. The sad reality is, people who saw it and bought into it have thrown up their hands and said, "that's enough for me to jump on board the global warming bandwagon" when they don't even realize, it's an extremely hot two-sided issue and there is no consensus.  They also don't realize Gore has financial stakes in the whole business of global warming and "going green".  He owns shares in a company that sells carbon credits!

  15. yeah.

  16. Magnus, I could not answer that much better myself!

  17. Al Gore's movie really opened my eyes to what is happening to the earth. I am now an avid recycler and I try to be very efficient  with everything I have. I bought the movie for a few friends and family and asked them to pass it around after they watch it. I hate to see people waste. And how hard is it to throw your cans and bottles into a different bin? I don't know  how people can watch this and say that global warming is a conspiracy.

  18. I believe the movie's impact on the topic of GW is significant amongst every day folks. Conservation is a good thing if you believe his message or not. People have altered their lifestyle in an effort to "do the right thing".

Unfortunately the movie has had little effect on Al Gore's lifestyle. He continues to consume fossil fuels at a rate many times the average person.

Perhaps he should take a tour of that 4,000 square foot ranch down in Crawford TX  and get a few tips on conservation.

  19. I can tell you the impact it had on his fame & net worth (his real agenda).

If you don't know anything about science, just know that Al Gore's movie is designed to SCARE people, so if you were full of fear afterwards then it did it's job.

Just flush your wallet down the toilet and get it over with.

  20. scared the bejeesus!!!!!!!!!!
