Question:

How much importance do colleges give to SAT Subject test scores?

i am just asking because i got a pretty good score on the Chemistry and Math and i want to basically go for engineering. i want to know how much these scores can help me.

  1. the top-notch schools only recommend Subject Tests.  They usually recommend two of them, one in math, and the other of your choice.  They're considered in the application process, and will certainly help you look better if you do very well on them, but they are not a determining factor as to whether you're getting into that particular school or not.

  3. They're important if you're trying to get into a GOOD engineering or science college.

    Even then, they're mostly just used for assigning you your major.

  4. These test are important, but are not as important as GPA, class rank, AP classes, etc.  Unless you are going to a school that is famous/especially designed for a science (engineering, medical, etc...), then they are typically only used for placement in General Ed classes.  

    Like for example, the US History and Lit ones I took just fulfilled the requirements to have at least 2 SAT II's, but they were good preps for the AP's in both.
