  1. Depending on your costs, your yields, and the prices you get, you can make a lot of money on either crop, or lose a lot of money on either crop.

The only thing consistant over the past half century is that you make very little money farming, but when you retire, your land is worth a whole lot more than you paid for it.

  2. income is based on what you get for your crop (every area is different - and when you harvest/sell your crop - is it contracted or do you sell to the mill/elevator, Dad's dog food the neighbor etc

how many bushels did you harvest?

    example using the county average

guessamating the price - price received at harvest could be higher or lower depending on the market at harvest

total amount received depends on bushels harvested.

    did you insure your crops?

    corn - 100 bu x $3.00 a bu = $300(per acre) x 500 acres=$150,000

if you harvested 30 bu  at 2.50 = $75x 500 than it would be $37,500 (if you insured your corm -call in a claim if you only harvested 30 bu)

    ______________________________________...

    sbean 35 bu x $5.50 a bu= 192.50 (per acre) x 500 acres =96,250

    if you only harvested 10 bu at $4.00 = $40x 500 = $20,000

(if you insured your soybeans call in a claim if you only harvested 10 bu)

but is also alot more expensive to raise corn than soybeans

  3. Figuring an average of 140 bu/ac of corn at $2.25 per bu vs 35 bu/ac of soybeans at $5.85 per bu. and taking into consideration the increased costs for producing corn vs soybeans you could expect to make $15.25 more from 1 acre of corn than the same acre in soybeans.  Or for your 500 acres you could expect to make $7625.00 more growing corn over soybeans next year.  Of course, the prices and yields are not set so this is just a good estimate based on current conditions.
