  1. Well, if 4" is one hand, figure 13 X 4" + 2" and then divide the answer by 12.  But, that's not how to determine rug size.  Measure from the center of the chest around the ribcage to the center of the buttocks beneath the tail.  That's your rug size.  If it falls between sizes, order the next larger size.

  2. HANDS           FEET

    12.0                   4ft

    12.1                   4ft 1

    12.2                   4ft 2

    18.0                   6ft

  3. A hand is 4 inches, so 13.2 would be 54 inches (14.2 would be 56 inches, not 5'6").

    But rug/blanket sizing is based on a horse's length, not it's height.  I have a 15.1 mare that wears a 75 and a 15.3 that wears a 72.

This website shows you how to measure properly:

    Good luck!

  4. 4' 4". A hand=4 inches.

  5. its not quite that simple my 13.2hh new forest is in a 5'9" rug and a friends horse is 14hh and also in a 5'9" rug so it quite confusing really!  You have to measure from their chest to their tail.  Also the diffrent brands of rugs are diffrent depths in the body.  Masta rugs are quite deep in the body and perfect for my new forest and most other chunky breeds and other brands arent as deep.  Just like peoples clothes i spose!

What i did was asked a couple of friends with horses diffrent sized rugs and tried them on my pony to see what size to get.

  6. Again, a hand refers to 4 inches, so 13.2 hh is 4'3"

  7. 5'2"

  8. it doesn't work like that for rugs, but the one i have just sold had 5'6'' rugs and anthoer one i have has 5'3'' rugs. 13.2hh into feet is 4'6'' but that wood be too small - it is measured from the shoulder to the tail.

  9. It doesn't work that way.  If by rug you are referring to stable blanket (as used in my neck of the woods) than the proper way to measure for the rug is to set your horse up on level ground as square as possible.  Then measure from the middle of the horses chest around the side to the middle of the horses tail, then whatever number you get round up to the next even number.
