I'm planning on going to China to study abroad in the summer of 2010(I plan ahead on this kind of stuff), and I am just planning about how much money I should take. I want to take some spending money, and I don't want to take too little or too much. Also, what would be a good amount to take to China with me? I'll probably be interested in buying clothes for myself and souveniers for my friends and me, and some food money incase I miss my hamburgers(haha)...and who knows what else...he he.

  1. Roughly

7 yuan (chinese dollars) is $1 US.

go to www.xe.com for currency rates.

For a nice cheap apartment (depending what city) you will need around $150-$250 a month.

Food - $14 a day (and thats eating well!)

    Weekly shopping probably - $50-70

For 3 months (assuming thats how long you are there for) I would bring with me around $4000-5000 US dollars. That will have you living very comfortably and safe.

  2. The exchange rate is changing constantly. You can't really predict so far into the future what it will be 2 years from now. It is currently around $1 = 7 yuan. Another thing to consider is that the US dollar has been dropping recently, so I'm going to guess that you're not going to be able to get as much out of your dollar in the near future.

  3. I think it would be better to ask this question again in the summer of 2010 at the moment the going rate is about 1 dollar to 6.9 rmb but is has been falling for the last couple of years and is most likely to keep on falling.

  4. Right now, $5 in the US is worth about ï¿¥35 in China. But that might change by 2010 (:

  5. We might be a part of China by then.

  6. Three months ago 1$ was 8 Yuan now 1$ is only 6.8 Yuan so really you will have to look closer to the time your going to come to china.
