How much is a 1979 Mercury 115 hp boat motor worth?

it is going to be worth what ever you can get for it the two strokes are quickly becoming illegal to use on lakes so they are hard to get rid of.  also a dealership will not typicaly take in anything that is over 10 years old.

if you're buying, not much...$700 maybe.  if you're selling, $1500 or whatever you think you can get away with.  there's a sucker born every minute, right?

parts are not a problem for this motor...  Any mercury dealer will carry the parts... (  thats not a real factor in the pricingof the motor)

Check on ebay and boat trader online you will see what similar motors are selling for.  

I Have seen 115s  go for as much as 1500 and for as little as 250  it just depends...  on who wants what....

I woulndt worry about parts, they will still be available for years to come.

Mercurys were well built engines, if it is in good running condition now, with proper care it will go a good long while yet.

Cheap insurance: replace the fuel pump and water pump right away, they are relatively inexpensive and the most common problems. Beats walking, expecially if you are in the middle of the lake.

those were awesome engines... but the inline 6 cylinder isn't made any more and might be hard to get parts for.
