  2. Unfortunately, bikingthings is wrong again.

    First, if it is a ladies bike you can peg it as close to worthless. Womens models are often purchased to cannibalize and restore mens bikes... since there are very few parts that will fit across genders the value is strictly of the parts that do.

    Second, bikes aren't like most things. Value is based on current condition, not what it would be if restored, and collectors place a heavy penalty on examples that require refinishing. For example, say that the saddle has a tear in it. 10-20% value reduction. Decals/stickers in poor shape, perhaps another 20%. Incorrect tires 10%, heavy wear 25 to 30% or more.

    A restoration quality paint job with correct decals might cost upwards of $800 to $1000. A 1940s Columbia, fully restored, might be worth $1200-$1400. See the problem?
