  1. Take your credit card.

It works as well in Paris as at home and your credit card company will get a better exchange rate than you can.

  2. Hello,

To see an updated conversion rate go to http://www.xe.com.

The amount of money you'll need really depends on the type of shopping you wanna do there. Paris is very expensive compared to other French areas. The easiest and the safest would be to use a credit card and only carry a small amount in cash.

    Enjoy!

  3. As of today:

1 US Dollar is worth 73 cents

You can check this daily at: http://www.oanda.com/convert/classic

Depending on what kind of shopping you plan to do of course, will determine how much you need. Personally, i can drop 1000 Euro an hour with two stops... Louis Vuitton and Sephora!

If you're just browing for fun clothes and souvenirs, i suggest you bring about 150 Euro a day.

If you have a credit card, Rillifane is right, better exchange rates and way to track your budget with summary of purchases. You can do that online from here (in France).

    Kind regards, Wendy

  4. Right now 1.34 dollars will buy you a Euro.  So, figure out how much you usually spend on stuff then add 40% (just to be safe).  Since you're asking such a quesion you probably don't know how to calculate percentages so...  Basically everything is about a third more expense but Paris tends to be an expensive city anyway (regardless of a weak dollar) so 40-50% is probably a good rule of thumb.

But there are bargains to be found everywhere in every city.  I've been able to live on 200 euros a day (almost 300 dollars) perhaps less! (if you have a kitchen you can buy food at cheap groceries and cook at home).  The big expense is hotels.  There are reasonable hotels that are not far.  For example Tiquetonne is a decent hotel and is located in a very cool area and the price is not bad!  You can also rent apartments in Paris sometimes more cheaply than a hotel will cost.

For a week trip to Paris I'd figure on spending about 2400-3000 euros (depending on hotel and food).  This is around 3300-3800 dollars.  But there are ways to get by for less (apartments, hostels, camping).  Yes, people can camp here!  It's a bit more dangerous (but very exciting too!).  You can buy a tent in one of the outdoor stores (decathlon or bercy village) and set it up on the banks of Canal Saint Denis.  Very gutsy but could work (I see people do it all the time).  But only if you're with other people...

  5. Keep up to date with the rate and use the currency converter below.

The big stores in Paris have nice stuff but not cheap. Take a lot of money.

  6. Today's exchange rate is 1,3647 dollar for 1 euro.

The amount of money you should take depends really on your budget. Paris can be REALLY expensive if you like designer clothes.

The best thing would be to have 500 € (682 dollar) with you, so you can choose different things. There are a lot of cheap chains like H&M, Zara, Mango, some a bit more expensive like Esprit, Comptoir des Cotonniers, 1-2-3.

Have fun and don't ruin yourself
