  1. $400-$600. Where do you live? There are a fair number of Shiba Rescues around so you may want to consider one of them. Rescue Shibas are usually <$400.

I have a 2 year old male Shiba Inu. He has a wonderful personality but he is a BIG challenge to take care of. Shibas are generally not recommended for first time dog owners because they are extremely strong willed, stubborn, and sensitive to handling. To be successful with a Shiba, use reward based techniques, be firm, and don't let the Shiba bully you. A Shiba is extremely intelligent and will use his powers to take over the house if you let him.

  2. 99p

  3. Why not get one from a rescue group?

  4. by it if its cute no limits i paid 1900 for my purebreed american bulldog moose

  5. Wow, um, I paid three hundred for  year old Shiba Inu and that was like, ten years ago.

Are they good dogs? I'd say so; but.. I find the breed somewhat aloof.  I loved my dog and she was affectionate but only for short periods of time then she'd go off to lay by herself near the door. They tend to be very very active dogs and some of them (I had a friend who raised them) are obsessed with getting outside and doing something. If you are active outside I'd say it was an excellent dog to take hiking/biking/horseback riding with you. They have amazing stamina and endurance.

They are extremely attentive to anything that moves (it's a Japanese Hunting dog!) and will chase it. If you get this breed of dog don't count on it being laid back, you'll need to train it properly to not run off.

Inside they are not hyper, per se, but they do long to be out of doors. I would not recommend one for apartment living UNLESS you intend to go for a long walk/run or hike every day rain or shine. They are playful and the ones I knew all got along well with cats and other dogs.

They are fastidious, somewhat like a cat. Quirky little buggers. But a happy dog overall. Not nervous, just active.

  6. you can find them in a shelter for $200, They are a good breed, they tend to have skin conditions and they are escape artists and can climb chain link fencing. Look at www.petfinder.com put in your zip code and the breed you are looking for.

  7. For a great quality pet from a fantastic breeder who shows, competes, or works her dog, I'd expect to pay $500-$800.

For a show quality dog from that same breeder, I'd expect to pay $2000 and up.

From a rescue group, I wouldn't pay much more than $300.  I wouldn't even get one from a bad breeder or rescue group unless it was like $25.

They can be great dogs, but are not for a beginner dog owner.  They are very independant, can be aggressive, and are incredibly smart and active.

If you don't know anything about the breed and you are considering  owning one, then a ton more research is necessary. Start here: http://www.shibas.org/ and branch out by following links and visiting the webpages of responsible breeders.

  8. $800, although I got my purebred Westie for $1200

  9. i have a shiba inu and they are such hard dogs to have..they're stubborn and aren't loving..they're very independent.

  10. with papers between $800 - $1000
