A hamster by its self is about $ 9.00 but to  get cage,bedding,and food to the total is about $ 50-60.

50?? hahaha my cage ALONE cost 50$ plus tax.... remember, even those 'starter kits' hae faults, like pine or cedar bedding, or a wheel with spaces where the hammy could injure itself. for the cage, food, bedding, water bottle, wheel, and food dish.... is about 80$ sure, you COULD get a 30$ starter kit with improper wheel and pine or cedar bedding and its too small, but really, you should spend the extra cash and get a GOOD cage, GOOD food, GOOD food dish and water bottle and GOOD bedding .... well i hope u have fun  with your hammy!! =]
