I'm wanting to know for future reference, because I once had a problem with my ball python [it turned out just to be a stuck shedding] but it really frustrated me that I wouldn't know this kind of vital information.

I can find on easily enough because my area is big, but what is the average cost of a visit concerning the common problems [respiratory, parasites, regurgitation, etc.] to a herp/exotic vet??

  1. The reptile specialist I have used cost about the same a regular vet visit. I got a ball python treated for a burn and had him tested for parasites, It cost around $75 dollars, The vet told me this was a pretty minor problem but i expect that the worse the problem the more it will cost. I've heard of people paying upwards of $300 for treatment of serious mouth rot that needed surgery.

It's highly dependent of the veterinarian and the problem, your best bet is to find a local vet that is experienced with reptiles and ask him or her. Any good vet office will be happy to answer your questions

  2. Mine costs $45, but I live in Kansas, and things are a bit cheaper in Kansas.

  3. if you have a vet who knows reptile they charge about the same as regular vets, but specialists can cost a bit more, it really depends on what is wrong, if it is a simple f***s sample or worming a regular vet can do this mine for my tortoises costs 20 pounds but if i need a more specialist treatment i get referred and the prices start at 30 pounds for a consultation, normally a consultation is 15 pounds, hopefully you will not need a specialist vet, but they do charge more as they are specialist in their field, you can help by researching if you snake gets ill, some sites will have a section for vets to help them treat the reptile, so if your snake gets sick, find out if you can get how to treat it and print it off take it to your vet, he may be able to phone a specialist to confirm the treatment  and treat your snake under the advise of a specialist which will be cheaper, it will also reduce the stress to your snake of having to travel to find a specialist vet, unfortunately when a reptile gets sick it can cost some money, but i am sure with the right care and diet your snake will not get sick, and if it does your mum and dad will find the money, even if you offer some of your pocket money to help, the best thing you can do is to research common problems with pythons as there may be a simple solution that will save you going to a vet, best of luck honey
