How much is a hide of leather?

Question

i would like to re-upholster my car in leather

it may not be worth it if the leather is expensive because its my first car and not worth much

but it looks pretty easy to do

on average how much would it cost for a hide of leather in royal blue and white

If it your first car and you want the leather look , save yourself a lot of time and more importantly money and go to the wreckers and get some leather seats etc..  If you have a go with real hide and mess it up not only have you wasted a lot of money but you will have also ruined your car.

Hides will not be cheap for auto leather.  They are usually more expensive than upholstery hides.

Car trimming is not an easy job and is highly skilled.  Much better left to the professionals.

I have to agree with Judy, and certainly to DYE a hide would add to a cost. Why not go "Naugahyde" something akin to real, and a bit more substantial than some Vinyls.

   In any case, with any material, the job is not strictly EASY to do, and with a HIDE, which in your case might equate to 4 or more COW hides, Leather is not so conducive to curving, forming, stretching, adapting, as other materials might be.

Just my two "sense"

   With no offense meant at all I GET IT, regarding a first car, and certainly with no offense to others, I've heard song lyrics that relate to $5,000 rims put on a car worth less than $500.

Vinyl is easier than leather, and comes in synthetic leather textures.

real leather doesn,t come cheap. you have finished hides which have been worked and are smooth and have been treated, and you have green hides which have been roughly tanned and have not been treated , which you don,t want. Depending on what kind of hide from buffalo or elk which are super expensive(around4 to 500$ to cow hides which range from 1 to 200$ depending if there are any holes or flaws. You would be better off going with the vinyl because you don,t want to get leather wet either.
